TOUR DE YORKSHIRE
Today we see the start of the very first ‘Tour de Yorkshire’ , bicycle race and so, all around the area, people are displaying balloons and also old bikes, which have been proudly painted in the official colours of blue and yellow.
Even supermarkets are getting in on the act …..
and bikes are popping up all over the place ……..
…..here is one outside a hair-dressing salon.
Today the ‘TOUR’ began with the ‘Grande Depart’ from Bridlington. Then wended its way alongside dramatic coastal scenery and through Dalby Forest.
Onwards, across the spectacular North York Moors to the glorious, iconic town of Whitby, with its wonderful harbour and dramatic, ruined Abbey…high on the cliffs and the picturesque little fishing village of Robin Hoods Bay, which seems to cling, moss-like to the almost perpendicular cliffs.
This first stage finishes on Scarborough seafront.
Saturday 2nd May
The second stage begins in front of Selby Abbey and then meanders across the East Yorkshire Wolds to the ancient market town of Beverley.
It crisscrosses the East of the county, going through pretty villages, until it reaches the jewel of Yorkshire …..the wonderful, historic City of York.
Sunday 3rd May
The final stage begins at Wakefield and on to Barnsley ….with a series of steep, punishing climbs to the famous Cow and Calf rocks. Then a welcome race downhill to Leeds, with a final sprint around Roundhay Park to the finish.
Much information and also videos of the scenery can be found online and on YouTube. ……too numerous to post links. But if you are able to make time to see this spectacle, I’m sure you will be able to find the best viewing locations.
Lets hope the weather is kind and everyone has a wonderful time !
Isn’t there a saying …..” If you can step on three daisies it must be Spring “ ……… ?
Well, looking at these photos, taken this morning, ….I guess it must be SUMMER…..….. !
………….but it certainly doesn’t feel like summer just yet ……………
